These days parents and caregivers have a lot choices when it comes to children's magazines. There's a slew of award-winning ones filled with activities, poetry and drawings (think the classic 60-year-old Highlights for Children) and there's also pint-size versions of Sports Illustrated, National Geographic and Discovery. Still, there are even magazines for pre-schoolers like Highlights High Five, Your Big Backyard and Wild Animal Baby that encourage children to develop a love for reading.
And speaking of a love for reading, today is the anniversary of the birthday of beloved author Dr. Seuss and National Read to Your Child Day, a day designated by the National Education Association that encourages parents and caregivers to read to children 20 minutes a day, which helps children recognize letters of the alphabet, write their own names and be overall more successful in school.
