Today, Self magazine editor Lucy Danziger again addressed the issue in her blog stating that the process of producing a cover image is "art" and that the photos are not meant to be "true-to-life." Lucy Danziger goes on to say "It is, however, meant to inspire women to want to be their best. That is the point."
We have to admit, we're bothered by this. We think a retouched cover--one that shaves pounds off a body--is sending the message to women that best isn't good enough. What do you think? Is this a serious issue that magazine editors need to rethink?
I agree with you on this one. If they feel that showing their readers what they should aspire to be like, yet they aren't showing the real person they're featuring, then shouldn't they get a different cover feature?? I'm not against Kelly Clarkson by any means, but if the world wants to see normal by magazine standards, then don't get a normal girl by American standards on your magazine cover.
