More than 200 years after the first Thanksgiving took place in Plymouth Colony, 1621, President Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday of November as a national day of thanksgiving. President Lincoln was in part, influenced by the passionate editorials of magazine editor and author Sarah Josepha Hale. Finally, in 1941 Congress made Thanksgiving an official national holiday.
